Desk Job? 6 Posture Habits That Save Your Neck
If your neck and shoulders feel tight by the end of a workday, your desk setup and habits are usually a big part of the story. Small changes, repeated daily, often bring more relief than any single fix.
1. Screen at eye level
The top of your screen should sit roughly at eye height so you're not constantly looking down. A stack of books or a laptop stand works fine.
2. Bring the work to you
Sit close enough that you're not craning forward. Your back should rest against the chair while your hands reach the keyboard comfortably.
3. Soft, supported shoulders
Let your shoulders drop. Armrests or a desk at the right height stop you from shrugging without noticing.
4. Move every 30 minutes
The best posture is the next one. A short stand, stretch, or walk every half hour does more than sitting perfectly still ever could.
5. Two simple resets
- Chin tucks: gently draw your chin straight back, hold a few seconds, repeat 10 times
- Shoulder rolls: roll your shoulders backward slowly, 10 times, a few times a day
6. Watch the phone
Hours spent looking down at a phone add up. Lift it toward eye level instead of dropping your head toward it.
If headaches or stubborn neck tightness keep returning despite these changes, an assessment can pinpoint what's driving it and give you targeted exercises.
